Busy Bees!! ...well, people!

We have been crazy busy!

Trying to get everything together for the move.

This is not a complaint...AT ALL!!!

I am merely stating a fact!!!! :)

All summer Geordie has been talking about 'running a race' so we found a children's race for him. He did it this weekend. The US 10K Classic;

It was 0.5K (0.31 miles). There were 5 races for children and they were broken up by age, Geordie's race was for 5 & 6 year olds. Parents were allowed to run with the children, so Callum did. To be honest, I was more afraid for Callum running it than Geordie.

Look under the ( d's ) you will find Callum & Geordie

When the race started Callum was running behind Geordie but Geordie kept turning around to see where he was. So Callum quickly changed his strategy and moved in front of him;

Look at that form... and that hair...

Both 'boys' ran the whole race. I had told them both it's perfectly fine if you need to stop and walk. They had paced themselves well and did a lot of passing down the 'backstretch'. By the time Geordie thought about walking he could see the finish line.

If you ask Geordie he thinks that he came in second. The first 10 girls and first 10 boys receive a medal.

We just know that he was in the top 10 for boys and his time was somewhere around 3 minutes and 23 seconds;

...take note of the 'cheese smile'

The proud parents and the tired of pictures Geordie!

**update; Callum slept well that night! ;)

Creative Conversations...

Although Geordie is going through a huge, "I don't like girls" phase he has a few that seem to be void of this rule.

There are his 10 year old twins across the street, and of course N.J. , then there is Tara!

Tara is my brothers girlfriend and Geordie is more than smitten...still...and he has not seen her since Christmas!!

A couple of weeks a go when we were in Wilmington. We were sitting around Callum's parents table having lunch discussing something or other that had absolutely nothing to do with anything Tara!;

Grandpa: "...the little blonde one?"

Geordie: (who was not even involved in this conversation) "who? what? Do you mean Tara?!?"

Grannie: "Who is Tara?"

Me: "Greg's girlfriend."

Geordie: "Who's Greg?!?"

Yes, my friends...complete denial!

-------
A couple of weeks a go Callum and I were discussing a 'project' that Geordie needed to do for his graduation;

Me: "Oh, it says that he can draw us, we don't need to get a picture, we'll just get him to draw one."

Callum: "He can draw us?!?!?!"

Me: "Yes! That's what it says."

Callum: "Okay?!?! But I'm telling you now...it is NOT going to look like us!!"

--------
Callum called home, Geordie answered;

Callum: "Did you call?"

Geordie: "No."

Callum: "Did Mummy call?"

Geordie: "No"

Callum: "Are you sure?"

* this from the guy who you have to ask 'did the phone ring while I was gone? did you answer it?' too!

Geordie: "Daddy, I know that Mummy did not call you!"

Callum: "Is Mummy sitting right beside you?"

Geordie: "No, she's in the shower, that's how I know she didn't call you. Can you call back later please?"

Callum: "Yes" ...feeling a little silly.

Bubbles, Glasses and Racing...

Geordie and Callum have been busy. Last weekend they went to Alabama and watched the Indy practice or something or other. They went with Uncle Vijay and had a great time!!! Although Geordie did admit that he likes Grandpa's races better!

This past weekend it was a rainy one. All indoor activities!! Here is their new addiction!!
(please ignore mess in back, this is our one room that we have not organized! we just recently started using it and this is what it is used for!)

As for me, what have I been up to on the weekends...

Hello, my name is Helen and I am addicted to House Hunters International!!

Seriously!!

I have been watching television less and less. Just not interested... then this show comes along!!

I blame my in-laws!!! When they were here they tied me down and made me watch it!! They also poured wine down my throat!!! YES!!! They are like that!!! ;)

So, it is now on my favourites list and I get to watch it on the weekend. Saturday morning I was all set for the 6th district in Paris; by Saturday night I was buying a cave house in Southern Spain. Sunday morning I changed my mind and had my heart set on a house on the Mediterranean in Italy. By that evening I was back to Paris...

We've discussed my bubble before and how it's a great place where everything goes my way! You think it's a joke, don't you!?!? Unfortunately It's not. There are a lot of times I really do live in this bubble and therefore think that I can do anything. For example, I think that we could go and live in one of these places...no matter the cost.
Where the money comes from?!? No idea! I don't think about things like that! That's just silly!!

I also think that if I played the lotto I would have a good chance of winning.

I blame my father for this. As my mother says, "Your father's glass half full is ALWAYS full!"

Now, before you start feeling bad for Callum and what he has to put up with...I do have my head on straight for some things!! Fortunately, they are usually the things that Callum lives in a bubble about.

Example, last year when Callum had to go to Germany for work. A couple of days before going he comes home freaked out about how we have to buy a new suitcase. To begin we have plenty of luggage and it's all in perfectly good condition! BUT...our bags were either too small or too big for what Callum wanted to bring. Therefore, in Callum's mind, we had to quickly run out and buy a $100 medium size piece of luggage for him to take this one trip to Germany!!
Needless to say, we did not buy a new suitcase!

I think everyone has a little bit of a bubble. I'm not talking about 'what if'...I'm talking about really thinking that you can do something!!!

What's in your bubble?

Can you be spontaneous?!?!

It all started on the drive to the airport when we were going home for Christmas, on December 20th. Geordie started talking about how he couldn't wait to see Nora Jane. After more talk we found out that even though he knows where Washington AND Halifax are on the map he thought that everyone who wasn't in GA was living together in Halifax. Make sense?!?

Well, Geordie was incredibly upset that he was not going to be able to see NJ. To the point of crying so hard he was having trouble getting a breath in.

Skip to the last 2 weeks;

Talking about Geordie's upcoming birthday;

Geordie: "Mummy, there are no girls allowed at my party! I don't want any girls! ...I wish Nora Jane could come but she can't because she lives far away... we can still send her an invitation though, right?!?"

On another day;

Geordie: "I want to move to Washington! I want to live by Nora Jane! Can we move to Washington?"

Callum: "No, we can't move to Washington. I can't get a job there. We were thinking Canada might be better." this was said in a nice voice

Geordie: "Well, how 'bout Mummy move to Canada and we'll move to Washington?!?"

Callum: "How would we eat?!?!"

As you can see the last little bit has been all about Geordie and how much he misses NJ. This coincides with me coming back from being home for Christmas and really missing Alaina. I truly thought that by now we would have been up to visit but due to various things beyond our control we have yet too!

Skip to Thursday, yesterday.  I was listening to the radio and they were talking about the inauguration coming up...this Tuesday! Totally didn't think...even though I have my trusty, 'The George W. Bush out of office countdown' calendar it never crossed my mind.

Well, here is something that we would like Geordie to be a part of. After all, he was born in this country. Even if I don't always like it! We too would like to experience it but I really put Geordie first. In years to come it will be great that he can say, "I was there!". Especially as it will probably be in a Canadian school that he does!  ;)

So, put 2 and 2 together and you get...

WE'RE GOING TO WASHINGTON, DC!!!!

I will be truthful...I'm equally excited to see our great friends as I am to be there for the inauguration!

Meanwhile we think that we are going to try and keep it from Geordie. Luckily he's so low key that I told him we were going on a trip and will be staying in a hotel tonight and then more driving tomorrow and he was fine with that.

I so hope that I can keep it from him. I keep wanting to do a dance and tell him. But I'm trying to keep my excitment down so that I can see the look on his face when we get to  the house and he sees NJ.

So, getting back to my original question; Can you be spontaneous?!?

I used to have a life...seriously!

A couple of years a go Geordie and I had an 8 hour layover in Toronto when we were going home for Christmas. He would have been 2 months shy of 3 years.

So, I rented a car and we checked out the city. I showed Geordie where we used to live, pre-Geordie and where I used to work.

When showing where we lived...

Geordie: "You live here?"
Me: "Yes, Daddy and I used to live here."
Geordie: "...but what about me?"
Me: "you were not born yet, it was just Mummy and Daddy"
Geordie: "huh?!?"

When showing where I used to work...

Geordie: "You?!? Work?!?! But what about me? What do I do? I know, I'll stay with Grandad. We play together"
Me: "No Geordie, I used to work there when it was just me and Daddy"
Geordie: "huh?!? Where was I?"
Me: "You were not born yet."
Geordie: "You and Daddy without me?!?!"

Yes...can you believe it?!?! Well, the other day I found that the apple really doesn't fall far from the tree!

Callum: "I checked out your Thursday Thirteen today. I thought it was a little weird."
Me: "How's that?"
Callum: "I've never even heard of some of those movies! Howard the Duck?!?"
Me: "The boys and I killed that movie when we were young!"
Callum: "Well, I've never seen it with you!"
Me: "You do realize I had a life before you, right?!?!"
Callum: "huh?!?!"

*Please ignore fashion in both pictures.
They are old pictures. Both before everyone had a digital! Although, I think my brothers still secretly put on pajamas with feet when they are alone! ;)

A new pet...and other findings!

Geordie and Callum found a new pet to join Steve and Baby Geordie. The poor thing probably had no idea that hanging out on our porch could mean death to freedom.

So, without further ado... here's Ivan!

I was unable to get a good picture of him as I refuse to go too close to these pets of ours! Here's an example...

------
More great thoughts by Callum, talking about getting away with things...

Callum; "Mummy stuck with tricks that were tried and true so she didn't get caught much. I was more of an innovator, which meant that I got caught a lot!

Geordie; "I get caught" *with big smile on face*

Callum; "But that's because you're an innovator"

Geordie; "Just like you!"

------
Picture it; dinner table, talking, ALL THREE OF US ARE THERE. I just said something that Callum agrees with...

Callum; "f@#*in-eh!"

Total silence. Callum and I are looking at each other trying not to laugh.

Geordie; "I heard that!"

Callum; "you didn't hear anything"

Geordie; "Yes, I did. I heard what you say. You say, f@#*in-eh!"

The next day when Geordie and I were driving home after his nursery school...

Geordie; "Today I was with Carson, and Morgan and Dude and we had a big secret"

Me; "What was the secret?"

Geordie; "I can't tell you, it was bad words."

*quickly dialing Callum's number as Morgan's mother works with Callum*

We later found out that they were saying things like 'tree head' and 'car head'.

I didn't bother asking!

-------
Both of our mother's are huge backseat drivers. Truthfully, I don't know how the Dad's deal with it! ...and yes, they are both known to read this!!

Well, this backseat driver takes the cake!

Please note that this is a professional former F1 driver who is on a closed circuit. Do not try this at home! ;)

Sarcasm?!?!?! Is it possible...?!?!?

This morning Callum and Geordie were in the kitchen cutting up watermelon.

It was Callum's first time EVER cutting a watermelon and he was a little unsure...

Callum: "Hels?!?! What do I cut it with?"

Geordie: "A sharp knife!"

After they finished eating...

Callum: "Hels?!?! What do I do with it now?"

Geordie: "you put it back!"

That's my boy!!!!!!

You should have seen him when he was showing Grandpa how to use the vacuum!!!!

Who did you say was a drama?!?!?

A while back we had a 'situation' with the word Jack-Ask . Well, it came up again on the drive back from Wilmington the other day.

I must add that Geordie has super-sonic hearing now a days!!!

After a car cut us off;

Callum: (under his breath) "Jackass!!"

Geordie: "Daddy, did you just say Jack-Ask?"

Callum: "no"

Geordie: "I heard you!"

Callum: "you heard wrong"

Geordie: "you are a drama!"

Speaking of drama, this was Geordie today at soccer camp...

On another note...I want this!!!

What's with the hole?!?!?

Had a great l-o-n-g weekend! After having a Canada Day celebration on the 1st we headed over to Wilmington on the 2nd. Just got back last night!

What did we do?!??! Beach, beach and more beach!! Callum and I were also able to go out for dinner one night to one of our favourite places; Boca Bay...and we went ALL BY OURSELVES!!!

On the 4th we ventured out to the beach around 10:00 a.m. We like to do the beach in the morning because (1) there are less people and (2) there usually is a chance of rain in the late afternoon.

While there I went for a walk. I couldn't help noticing the amount of people that were there who seemed to be there for the long haul! Some had propane tanks hooked up to a huge pot, others had coolers upon coolers. But the one thing that stuck out in my mind was how many males dug holes! It didn't matter what the age was!!! There were 2 years olds digging, 20 year olds, 40 year olds and I even saw one man who looked about 80!!! What is it with this hole fascination?!?!?! I don't understand it!!!

I remember years a go when Callum and I were going out. We were getting ready to go to the beach and Callum grabbed a shovel to take down with him.

me; "why are you taking that?"

Callum; (like I'm stupid) "to dig a hole!"

me; (thinking that people would make fun of him) "why?!?"

Callum; "cause it's cool!"

me; (still thinking that people would make fun of him) *sigh*

So, we get to the beach. My cousins are down there, some with their spouses. Also, some friends of my cousins. Callum starts digging a hole...one minute later, all the guys are helping.

HUH?!?!?!?!?!? Does anyone understand this?!?!?

From the office of...

Callum;
"...start doing stuff for yourself man!! What do you think we are?!? Your servants?!? You are our servant! Specifically mine!!!"

then Callum sees me coming into the room

Callum: "you're going to blog that aren't you?"

me: "yup!"

AS IF?!?!?!?!

Last night I was showing Callum some pages of a blog I came across the other day. I couldn't get over how her stories about her husband are so similar to mine. Or maybe it is just how similar our husbands way of thinking are.

Lately whenever anything happens around here that is funny and has to do with Callum he quickly will say, "don't write about that!". After reading a couple entries of the other blog Callum says, "okay, you can blog about me then, if that's going to make your blog more interesting. You can get all of your best material from me. I'll allow you..."

AS IF!!!!?????!!!!

Thing is Callum can be funny but 55% of the time you are laughing at him and 50% of the things that he says that you 'laugh with' he gets from me. So really he is only 22.5% funny. [$20 (Canadian!) says that he will comment on this part!]

Callum has a much different outlook on some things (okay a lot!) from me. For example, a while back he was packing to go away for work, suddenly he started to freak out, we didn't have a bag that would fit just his stuff. We either had something that was too big or too small. Most people would think, okay either we pack two small bags or just have a lot of space in a big bag. Not Callum!! His first thought is; we NEED to go out and buy a brand new bag. I burst out laughing. If I hadn't been there at that second or he had been out he would have gone and bought one!

Here are some other examples of his thought process; taking care of everyone , being silly, parenting, sayings, being overheard, beliefs, being thrifty, cleaning.

So now that I have the 'go ahead', just wait...

That, my friends...is Karma!!!

Yesterday we were eating lunch. Geordie finished his and wanted cherries. He was told twice that either Callum or I would get them when we finished our meal. Geordie asked one more time...

Callum: "Geordie, if you say the word 'cherry' again you will not get any".

Geordie: "lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard..."

Callum is hilarious...

Tonight, just after supper, I was cleaning up the dishes and Callum & Geordie were painting together and talking. This is what Callum had to say;

"I am in charge of all you see here"

Sick leave!

This weekend I was down and out!!! Literally!!! I caught some kind of stomach virus that was going around and I was unable to get out of bed. It was horrible. I don't remember EVER being that sick before. It started late Friday night and really, I still feel it now, Monday evening.
So, it was Callum and Geordie to fend for themselves this weekend. How did this go you may ask?

Well, when I finally woke up around 1:30 in the afternoon, no one was home. Luckily a little 'elf' put a phone next to my pillow so I called Callum's mobile. Where were they?!?! At the Mexican restaurant!! I went back to sleep.
Later that afternoon when I woke up they were informing me that they were going to an old colleagues (of Callum's) for supper. Callum told me that we had been invited some time during the week but he didn't think that we were going to go. Earlier that day when he realized how sick I was he decided that he and Geordie would go...and then they would be fed!
On to Sunday (which also happened to be Callum's birthday) I finally needed some kind of food so Callum actually made scrambled eggs and toast for me...and Geordie. Although when asking afterwards how it was he told me that when he was cooking them he thought that they smelled like sweaty boots. Don't ask because I have no answer!!
That afternoon, Callum took Geordie to an indoor play place as the weather was horrible and Geordie needed to get out! He called around 6 and told me that Geordie was dying of hunger and that they were going to stop at McDonald's as it was just across the street.

Thing is, Callum gets incredibly aggravated when I want to eat out or order something in once-in-awhile because I don't feel like cooking!!!! All I can say is that I will never feel bad about doing that AGAIN!!!!!

Conversations with Geordie...

We had cupcakes for desert tonight...

Me: "Geordie, how is it?"

Geordie: "It's goody!!"

Callum: "It's good, goody isn't a word. We speak Queen's English".

2 minutes later

Callum: "My cupcake is good"

Geordie: "My cupcake is GOODY!!"

Today Geordie and I were running a couple of errands after his school. As we were coming out of a store...

Geordie: "When we get home can I ride my bike?"

Me: "Aaahhh...I'm not..."

Geordie: "Yes or no Mummy, that's all you have to say, Yes or no!"

I'll remind you again that Geordie is not yet 4!!!

above; Geordie just over 6 months. When he didn't talk back or correct us!

Some funny parenting...

Really, Callum is a great father!!! These were just some really funny photos.

Tonights dinner conversation went like this:

Geordie, "can I have my ring" asking about a gaudy Spider man ring.

Callum, "no, we're eating now"

Geordie, while pointing to Callum's hand, "but you have your ring on".

Callum had nothing to say!!!

above; yes, that is Callum with a pair of binoculars (bi-noc-i-nocs according to Geordie).

Great sayings by Callum

" If I thought that I could make food, I would almost allow you to go away by yourself"

Pot?!?! Kettle?!??! Black?!?!?

This morning I overheard a husband say to a child,
"Talking to you is like talking to a brick wall".

That's all I have to say...

So as not to incriminate anyone, real names were not used.

Beliefs?!?!?!?!?!?

Last night I asked Callum if he had read my blog lately.
He replied, with a straight face, "I don't believe in blog!"
He was serious, he really thought that, that actually made sense!!!

What in the hell is there to believe in?!?!?!

I do know that he believes in superheroes...
